Susceptibility of 45 Recent French Field Isolates of Streptoccocus suis to Florfenicol06 May 2015
Under the conditions of this French study, Streptococcus suis isolates collected from piglets in western France between 2011 and 2014 were sensitive to florfenicol.
To investigate occurrence of acquired resistance, minimum inhibitory concentrations of florfenicol for Streptococcus suis isolated in France between 2011 and 2014 were determined by Guillaume Lequeux and Eric Le Drean from Institut en Santé Agro-Environnement d’Ille-et-Vilaine in Fougeres, France.
In a paper published in Journal of Swine Health and Production, they reported an experiment form which they concluded that no acquired resistance to florefenicol was observed among recent field isolates of S. suis after more than 10 years of use of this antibiotic.
