The total number of all Dutch pigs has risen by 0.5 per cent according to the April/May census, the Whole Hog reports.
The rise was driven mainly by an increase in the number of piglets, which rose by 1.1 per cent to 5.123 million head.
The Whole Hog also says the census confirms that pig farming in the Netherlands is concentrating with four areas containing 90 per cent of the pig population.
In Denmark, the two major processing companies, Danish Crown and Tican, have both reported an increase in sales and profits.
The Whole Hog says that Danish Crown's profits for the year rose to DKK1.648 billion compared to DKK1.164 billion a year earlier.
At the same time, Tican's profits rose by 80 per cent to DKK157 million on an eight per cent rise in sales.
The Whole Hog reports that while British producers have benefited from high prices and favourable exchange rates, they are still at the bottom of the European scale when it comes to the amount of carcass meat produced per sow.
The British average performance of pigs weaned per sow is 22.3 – two per cent below the EU average.

Pig Price Cycle will Push Ahead if Demand Pulls
The Whole Hog pig price cycle is continuing to rise and could reach the high achieved in 2005 in early 2011.
Whether the record high price is reached will all depend on demand, the Whole Hog says.
It adds that demand will not be falling before Christmas nor into the New Year.
In Europe, the early snow and freezing weather that occurred in November caused transport and economic problems and it has also seen a firming in prices across the European pig producing countries.
The Whole Hog says that all the Euro-zone countries report higher prices bringing Christmas early for producers.
Danish Exporters Making Gains in 2010
The Danish trade figures for the first seven months of the year show pig meat exports are on track for a good year.
While Danish exports into the EU and to the UK in particular have fallen, exports to countries outside the EU are strong, according to the Whole Hog.
However, the Whole Hog says that the Polish pork exports are the ones to watch. The industry is undergoing a restructure and the export figures for the first three quarters of 2010 show growth.
Canadian pig meat exports are maintaining their momentum. In the first nine months of 2010, they rose by 3.7 per cent, the Whole Hog says. However, live exports are down.
For the US, pig meat exports have risen by 2.2 per cent in the first nine months of the year to 1.364 million tonnes. However, exports for September this year were down on September 2009.
Suppliers See Solid Sales Growth in Japan
The August trade data for Japan shows solid growth with both Danish and US exporters making advances in the market, the Whole Hog reports.
However, Canadian exporters are leading the way in the Japanese market.
In South Korea, however, imports from all pig meat trading countries is down except Chile and the Whole Hog says that even Chile is finding it hard to maintain its momentum.
In Australia, the Whole Hog says that the trade gap is back on trend. With export volumes up and import volumes down.
However, the prices for exports fell, according to the Whole Hog analysis.
