Società Italiana di Patologia ed Allevamento dei Suini - Proceedings, 2004, 267-272
This study was carried out under field conditions in swine raised for the production of Parma's ham and thus slaughtered at 9 months of age, in order to assess the efficacy of two vaccination programs with HYORESP® (Merial) against M. hyopneumoniae. Pigs were distributed into 3 groups: control pigs, pigs vaccinated at one week of age and then at weaning, pigs vaccinated at 7 and 9 weeks of age. Lung lesions at slaughter served as parameter and were evaluated as described by Madec with scores ranging from 0 to 28. Pigs vaccinated with HYORESP® (Merial) had an average lesion score significantly lower compared to the control group. The reduction of lung lesions was of 47% and 51 % in pigs with the early and late vaccination programs respectively.
