Studio longitudinale sulla dinamica dell'infezione da Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae in un allevamento a ciclo chiuso - (Longitudinal study on the infection cycle of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae in a farrow to finish farm).
Società Italiana di Patologia ed Allevamento dei Suini - Proceedings, 2004, 335-346

In order to understand the infection pattern of M. hyopneumoniae in a 550-sow herd in which both vaccination and antimicrobial prophylaxis against M. hyopneumoniae were applied, three piglets of each of 18 the selected sows were monitored from one week of life to slaughter. For each of them data about clinical signs, serological profile (S/P ratio), treatments and findings at necropsy were collected. A great variability in the diffusion pattern of M. hyopneumoniae was clearly demonstrated. The presence of seronegative subpopulations either within the sow or growing pig populations, even in a herd where vaccination is applied, represents a significant risk factor which can modify the diffusion pattern making infection and circulation occur sooner or later. The use of various types of data rather than only serology allowed to determine the infection pattern with more precision and is thus recommended.
