Is there a "new" PRRS?

A typical severe outbreaks of reproductive failure have recently occurred in the USA. The syndrome was characterized by high rates of abortion (>10%) in short period of time (2-4 weeks) with high sow/boar mortality (>5%). PRRSV was clearly demonstrated to be involved but further investigations are needed to understand the risk factors associated with herds affected with this syndrome.
