Study on some factors influencing the incidence of G I parasitism in pigs.

The breed, sex and age of animals have significant effects on the gastrointestinal parasite incidence during different seasons in pigs. This was revealed when an overall 60.62% gastrointestinal parasite incidence was observed after examining 1554 faecal samples of pigs maintained in Bihar, India (date not given); 26.71 and 33.91% animals suffered from single and multiple parasite infection. The female pigs were observed to harbour more (63.89%) gastrointestinal parasites than males (51.16%). The intensity of the parasite incidence was higher during the rainy (78.67%) than winter (60.66%) and summer (49.59%) seasons. The younger animals were found to be comparatively less infected with various gastrointestinal parasites such as Ascaris suum, Fasciolopsis buski, Oesophagostomum, Trichuris, Strongyloides, Necator, Physocephalus, Schistosoma spp., Eimeria and Blantidium coli.
