Absence of evidence of porcine circovirus infection in piglets with congenital tremors
J Vet Diagn Invest 2003 15: 151-156
Congenital tremors (CT) in newborn piglets have been linked to presence of PCV in previous American reports. The current study brought no evidence of PCV nucleic acid or antigen in the CNS and non-neural tissues of 40 cases of CT from 4 European countries, using in situ hybridisation and immunohistochemical labelling. Failure to isolate the virus or to amplify a PCV nucleotide sequence was also reported. Although the potential role of PCV in the occurrence of CT cannot be ruled out, the previous results do not support such a hypothesis.
