On-farm post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS)/porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome (PDNS) study: aims and objectives.
Pig Journal 2003 51: 108-118
In order to investigate the potential role of molecular and immunological events in the development of both PMWS and PDNS, an on-farm study will be carried out over 16-20 weeks with an eight-week blood sampling period. DNA analysis, serological and immunological assays will be performed. Pigs included in the study will be monitored for clinical signs of the diseases. Such an experiment that attempts at pinpointing factors leading to the expression of the diseases is a first-time study and its results should help improve the development of therapeutics.
