Vaccination against Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae in a fattening herd with high lung score at slaughter

Seroconversion to Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (Mhyo) was previously shown to often occur during the fattening period. A vaccination protocol consisting of one injection of Hyoresp® (Merial) administrated to all pigs at their arrival in a fattening herd with high prevalence of SEP lesions at slaughter was applied from October 2000 to April 2003 in order to evaluate potential benefits of such a vaccination. The incidence of SEP at slaughter decreased from 15% to 2.4% indicating a clear positive effect of M.hyo vaccination.
