The combination of PRRS virus and bacterial endotoxin as a model for multifactorial respiratory disease in pigs.

PRRSV and LPS were demonstrated to have a synergic action regarding the induction of proinflammatory cytokines. Such overproduction of cytokines was associated with disease. The PRRSV-LPS combination is thus suggested as a reproducible model to study the pathogenesis of multifactorial respiratory disease in pigs.
