Efficacy of E2-sub-unit marker and C-strain vaccines in reducing horizontal transmission of classical swine fever virus in weaner pigs.
Preventive Veterinary Medicine, 2004, Volume 65, Nº3-4, 121-133
This study draws a comparison between a E2 subunit marker vaccine (Porcilis®Pesti, Intervet International BV) and a C-strain attenuated vaccine (Pestiffa®, Merial, France) regarding the effect on horizontal virus transmission in weaner pigs. Weaner pigs were vaccinated either with the E2 subunit marker vaccine or the C-strain vaccine and challenged at 0, 7 and 14 days post-vaccination. While the E2 subunit marker vaccine fully prevented viral transmission only from day 14 post-vaccination, the C-strain vaccine fully prevented horizontal transmission from the very day of vaccination. Therefore, in a context of emergency-vaccination scenario, the use of Pestiffa® (Merial, France) is highly recommended.
