BacterologyMycoplasma hyopneumoniae
STRAIT EL, THACKER EL
A review of diagnostic tools for the detection of mycoplasmas in the respiratory tract of swine.
American Association of Swine Veterinarians - Proceedings, 2005, 29-30
The eradication of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae from the herds primarily relies on reliable diagnostic tools but the presence of other mycoplasmas, i.e. M. hyorhinis and M. flocculare can make the detection of M. hyopneumoniae in the respiratory tract very challenging. Another important point is to keep in mind the specificity and sensibility of each diagnostic test since one or both may be low. A way of overcoming this issue is to use combination of diagnostic tests.
