General immunology: acquired immunity.
American Association of Swine Veterinarians - Proceedings, 2005, 473-478
The immune mechanisms consists of two complementary systems: the non-specific innate immune system which represents the first line of defense of an organism against pathogenic agents and the specific acquired immunity system which provides a long-lasting protection. Following a quick review of the differences regarding timing, specificity, memory, receptors, effector proteins and effector cells between the two systems, this paper focuses on the different steps of the functioning of the acquired immune system.
