Experimental induction of bacterial gastritis and gastric ulcer disease in gnotobiotic swine inoculated with porcine Helicobacter-like species.
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 2005, Volume 66, N°6, 945-952
Several groups of neonatal gnotobiotic pigs were inoculated orally with porcine Helicobacter-like isolates 2662 or 1268, H. pylori or H. heilmannii. Clinical signs and antibodies against Helicobacter organisms were assessed. Gastric tissues were also examined after necropsy and Helicobacter organisms were identified by means of Warthin-Starry and immunohistochemical stains. The results showed that porcine Helicobacter pylori-like bacteria could be pathogenic, while H. heilmannii was found to be minimally pathogenic.
