PMWS-PCV2-PCVD-PDNS

International Conference on Animal Circoviruses and Associated Diseases, European Society for Veterinary Virology, 2005
An epidemiological case-control study of post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) and porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome (PDNS) in pigs in The Netherlands.
DE JONG MF, WELLENBERG GJ, ELBERS ARW

A case-control study, aiming at knowing better the protential risk factors for postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) and porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome (PDNS), was carried out with pigs affected or not by PMWS and PDNS. Potential risk factors were asessed by means of a questionnaire filled in during an interview with the farmers. The results showed that the relationship between PMWS and PDNS was extremely strong. It was also shown that porcine reproductive and respiratoy syndrome (PRRS) could be a risk factor for PMWS. Piglets management also has to be taken into consideration as problems with colostrum intake can expose the piglets to PMWS. Lastly, the use of breeding stock from Anglo-Saxon origin was shown to possibly be associated with PMWS and PDNS.
