Porcine circovirus type 2: enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection of antigen and antibodies in feces.
International Conference on Animal Circoviruses and Associated Diseases, European Society for Veterinary Virology, 2005
The usual methods used to detect the presence of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) in pigs have their limits. Two Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) tests were developed: an antibody-detection blocking ELISA and an anitgen-detection capture ELISA. Both tests are performed on faeces. The tests carried out in this specific study on 49 faecal samples from pigs suspected of PMWS and 139 faecal samples from non affected pigs showed that the ELISA tests had a very high sensitivity (100% for samples from pigs suspected of PMWS and 96% and 95% for samples from pigs free of PMWS, for antigen detection and antibody detection respectively).
