Assessment of the economic impact of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome on wine production in the United States.
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association,2005, Volume 227, N°3, 385-392

An economic analysis was carried out to determine the losses generated by porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) in US swine farms. PRRS-affected and PRRS-unaffected swine farms were involved in the study. Health and productivity variables were analysed to determine the impact of PRRS on those farms. The annual economic impact of PRRS was then calculated thanks to the national estimates of PRRS incidence. The analysis showed that the occurrence of PRRS resulted in very high economic losses, and that the current PRRS-control strategies were far from being able to reduce these losses.
