Correlation of cell-mediated immunity against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus with protection against reproductive failure in sows during outbreaks of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome in commercial herds.
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 2005, Volume 226, N°10, 1707-1711
The objective of this study was to determine whether a link existed between cell-mediated immunity against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus and a protection against reproductive failure observed in sows during outbreaks of PRRS. Blood samples from 97 PRRS-affected sows and clinically normal sows were analysed. The cell-mediated immune (CMI) response was defined by use of an ELISPOT assay (INF-γ enzyme-linked immunospot). Statistical analyses (t tests and multiple linear regression) were then conducted. The results showed that increased cell-mediated immunity could result, in some extent, in clinical protection.
