Classical Swine Fever

Classical swine fever (CSF) in wild boar: the role of the transplacental infection in the perpetuation of CSF.
Journal of Veterinary Medicine - B, 2005, Volume 52, 161-164

Pregnant wild sows were investigated in an endemically infected region of Germany, in order to assess the role of transplacental infection in the perpetuation of CSF. The detection of the infection was carried out on 169 embryos and foetuses, by use of virus isolation, reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and serological investigations (ELISA "CHECKIT CSF-Sero"). No CSF virus was detected in these samples. These results showed that wild boars persistently infected by transplacental infection are not the main cause of CSF perpetuation, which is most probably also due to other factors.
