Reproduction of PMWS in immunostimulated SPF piglets transfected with infectious cloned genomic DNA of type 2 porcine circovirus.
Veterinary Research, 2005, Volume 36, N°5-6, 685-697
Although the presence of PCV2 is necessary to induce PMWS, additional factors are needed for the disease to manifest clinically. Immunostimulation is one of the factors investigated. The present study consisted in comparing the serological, clinical and histological features of SPF pigs treated as follows:
- group 1: control group,
- group 2: keyhole limpet hemocyanin emulsified in incomplete Freund adjuvant (KLH/ICFA) intramuscularly (IM) and thioglycollate broth intraperitoneally (IP),
- group 3: PCV2 DNA clone IM alone,
- group 4: PCV2 DNA clone IM, KLH/ICFA IM, and thioglycollate broth IP.
PCV2 DNA clone inoculated by the intramuscular route when associated to immunostimulation induced clinical PMWS. Moreover, viral replication was shown to be increased by immunostimulation.
