Post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) in Denmark - the situation to date.
Pig Journal, 2005, Vol. 56, 107-110
In April 2005, the prevalence of PMWS in Denmark reached 5.4% of all herds, corresponding to about 10% of all sow herds. However, a survey conducted using a questionnaire submitted to veterinarians suggests that prevalence be higher (17%). In Denmark, PMWS was responsible for high mortality and reduced growth rates in weaners. The primary management measures to comply with in order to limit the impact of PMWS are the reduction of stress and circulating pathogens and optimal hygiene conditions.
