Impact of PRRS virus on classical swine fever vaccine.
Proceedings of the International PRRS Symposium, December 2005, poster n°40

An experimental protocol including five groups of 5-7 pigs was designed as follows:
  • Pigs infected with classical swine fever virus (CSFV),
  • Pigs vaccinated with CSF vaccine and challenged with virulent CSF,
  • Pigs infected with porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) and challenged with CSFV
  • Pigs infected with PRRSV, vaccinated with CSF vaccine and challenged with CSFV,
  • Control pigs (no infection, no vaccination).
It is noteworthy that CSF vaccination in PRRSV-infected pigs was shown to prolong PRRSV viremia, and that the efficacy of the CSF vaccine failed to protect PRRSV-infected pigs against CSFV.
