Management of PRRS persistence: identification of persistently infected swine.
Proceedings of the International PRRS Symposium, December 2005, poster n°66

A total of 165 piglets of 2 weeks of age were included in this study: 109 of them were inoculated with PRRSV (VR-2332), the remaining piglets were kept as controls. Two to ten pigs were euthanized every 2 weeks until day 202 post-inoculation (DPI), tonsil samples were collected and tested by PCR. Results show that PRRSV can achieve persistent infection even beyond 200 DPI.
