Ricerca di PCV2 in linfonodi sottomascellari in 170 suini regolarmente macellati nel Nord Italia [PCV2 detection in 170 submaxillary lymph nodes of regularly slaughtered pigs in Northern Italy].
Società Italiana di Patologia ed Allevamento dei Suini - Proceedings, 2006, 291-296
Few information is available regarding the prevalence of PCV2 in slaughter pigs. In order to fill this gap, the authors have subjected 170 submaxillary lymph nodes of slaughter pigs to immunohistochemistry (IHC) so as to detect the presence of a PCV2 capsid protein and individuate animals which had been recently exposed to PCV2. Animals found positive by IHC represented 33,5% of the swine included in the study. Subsequently, IHC-positive animals were subjected to in situ hybridization (ISH) for the presence of PCV2 genome. Four animals were found positive by ISH suggesting a viral infection under way just before slaughter which was a rather unexpected result given the age of the animals.
