Sieroprevalenza dell'influenza suina in Lombardia [Herd level seroprevalence of swine influenza in Lombardia].
Società Italiana di Patologia ed Allevamento dei Suini - Proceedings, 2006, 189-191
A serological survey regarding swine influenza virus was conducted in Lombardy (region of Northern Italy) over a 21-month period from 2004 to 2005, which included 3427 serum samples collected in pigs from 216 herds and analyzed by ELISA. The results indicate that 98,2% of the animals were seropositive and that swine influenza virus was present in 99,5% (215/216) of the herds included in this study. Such a high seroprevalence of swine influenza in Lombardy represents a constant threat for swine production which should be maintained under control through careful herd management and vaccination programs.
