Prevalenza di Ascaris suum: rilievi ispettivi e indagine epidemiologica [A slaughter survey for Ascaris suum infection in North-Western Italy].
Società Italiana di Patologia ed Allevamento dei Suini - Proceedings, 2006, 311-316
This study included 223.339 pigs originating from 270 farms and was carried out in Piedmont (region of North-Western Italy) in order to evaluate the prevalence of Ascaris suum infestation and identify possible correlations with the herd profile. A total of 4.403 animals resulted positive for Ascaris suum, representing 19.7% of the tested animals and 74.8% of the herds (202/270). The larger a farm is the more likely it results infested by Ascaris suum, however the prevalence in large farms is still significantly lower than in small farms. No correlation was found between the application of the all-in/all-out method and the prevalence of Ascaris suum probably due to very high resistance of ascaris eggs in the environment.
