Diagnostica della patologia riproduttiva della scrofa [Diagnostic approach to the sow reproductive pathology].
Società Italiana di Patologia ed Allevamento dei Suini - Proceedings, 2006, 71-79
The authors distinguish 4 categories of reproductive failures in relation to when they occur: first half of gestation, second half of gestation, before gestation for gilts or during the farrowing-fecondation period for sows, and during either of this three stages. For each category, the various elements necessary for the diagnosis are reviewed (clinical signs, samples, analysis) with the corresponding pathogens. The results of the investigations carried out by the IZSLER (Zooprophylactic Experimental Institute of Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna) between 2003 and 2005 on reproductive failure outbreaks are also reported together with the description of a diagnostic protocol to apply in case of an outbreak of stillborn and weak piglets. PCV2 and PRRSV were the most frequently detected pathogens in abortion and stillbirth cases.
