La croissance perdue après le sevrage ne se rattrape pas [a postweaning growth deficit cannot be made up].
Réussir Porc, 2006, 124, 24-27
Postweaning is a tricky period for the future weight gain of pigs until slaughter. During the two weeks following weaning, piglets should not need to use their body reserves and should have a feed intake of at least 200g of prestarter concentrate per day. If it is not the case, an inadequate feed intake induces a energy deficit which cannot be made up subsequently and leads to lighter carcasses at slaughter.
