Detection of Porcine circovirus type 2 viremia and seroconversion in naturally infected pigs in a farrow-to-finish barn.
Canadian Journal of Veterinary Research, 2006, Volume 70, N°1, 58-61
The viremic and serological status of 34 pigs belonging to an endemically PCV2-infected farrow-to-finish herd with occasional occurrence of PMWS or PCV2-associated diseases was evaluated from 5 to 156 days of age by 2 PCR protocols and competitive ELISA for a total of 8 samples for each pig. During the 6-month sample collection period, no case of PMWS or PCV2-associated diseases was identified among the pigs included in the study. All samples collected before 72 days of age resulted negative for the presence of PCV2. Subsequently, the presence of PCV2 was detected concomitantly with elevated PCV2-antibody levels.
