The effects of transplacental porcine circovirus type 2 infection on porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus-induced enteritis in preweaning piglets.
Veterinary Journal, 2006, Volume 171, N°3, 445-450
Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) infection in swine is associated with acute enteritis in animals of all ages. This member of the family Coronaviridae has led to heavy economic loss and has become a source of concern for Korean swine industry. Is porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) involved in some way in the occurrence of PEDV infection? This experiment, designed to investigate the effect of congenital PCV2 infection on the clinical and histopathological consequences of postnatal PEDV infection, showed that PCV2 significantly potentiates the disease and the lesions caused by PEDV suggesting that PCV2 should be taken into consideration when dealing with the control of enteric disease.
