Danish consumption of antimicrobials.
International Pig Topic, 2006, Volume 21, N°2, p 19
This short communication reports the evolution of the amount of antimicrobials used per pig since the ban on antimicrobial growth promoters (AGP) launched on the 1st January 2000 in Denmark: since then, all antimicrobials, including AGP, have to be prescribed. In the two following years (2001/2002), a decrease in the consumption of antimicrobials per pig has been observed. By contrast, the results for 2003 and 2004 revealed a significant increase in the consumption of antimicrobials per pig. The emergence of PMWS in Denmark is one of the potential explanations for such an increase. The authors claim a generalization of the ban to all Europe.
