Lung inflammatory responses.
Veterinary Research, 2006, Volume 37, N°3, 469-486
This review addresses the mechanisms of inflammation in the respiratory tract considering successively the acute and the chronic forms. The triggering factors of each form are reported for various species with particular attention to the porcine species: Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae is given in example for the acute form of inflammation while Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) are associated with the chronic form. The cells and mediators involved in each process of inflammation are described, together with the means the host can implement to control the ongoing inflammatory response as well as the potential therapeutic interventions.
