Development of the neonatal B and T cell repertoire in swine: implications for comparative and veterinary immunology.
Veterinary Research, 2006, Volume 37, N°3, 417-441
In swine, the transition from innate and passive immunity to fully operational adaptive immunity corresponds takes place during the neonatal period to which the authors refer as the "critical window". The understanding of the events that occur during this period of development is therefore crucial develop the appropriate behavior regarding management practices, neonatal vaccines (nature, timing, and administration routes), identification of genetic resistance markers and immunodiagnostics. This review address successively the lymphocyte development and lymphogenesis during the fetal period, the characteristics of the B and T cell repertoires and the impact of maternal and environmental factors on the development of adaptive immunity in piglets.
