BacterologyMycoplasma hyopneumoniae
FANO EA, PIJOAN C, DEE SA
Assessing the Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae infection pattern in a sow herd following an increase in the replacement rate.
The aim of this study was to determine whether an increase in the replacement rate would have an impact on the onset of clinical manifestations of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae infection. Five thousands sows from a multi-site production farm were selected for this study. Gilts not affected by M. hyopneumoniae were then introduced to the panel on a regular basis and vaccinated against M. hyopneumoniae infection. Serological profiles were established before and after the increase of the replacement rate (M. hyopneumoniae ELISA test, IDEXX). The results indicated that an increased replacement rate could have an impact on the onset of M. hyopneumoniae-related clinical manifestations.
