Alternative vaccination schemes against Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae in pigs reared for Italian D.O.P. ham production.
Proceedings of the 19th IPVS Congress, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2006 - Volume 1:139
The aim of this study was to test a different vaccination scheme among 704 pigs from a finishing farm. All pigs had already been vaccinated once. They were separated into three groups: control, late vaccination (day 100) and very late vaccination (day 145) groups. The vaccinated pigs received M. hyo vaccine (HYORESP®, Merial). Average daily gain, food conversion rate, feed efficiency and lung lesions were assessed (a Kruskall-Wallis test was used for the statistical analysis). The results indicated that a second vaccination performed when the pigs were 145 days old was efficient, as it improved pigs' performances and reduced the development of lung lesions.
