Evaluation of postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) impact in Western Europe through a survey implemented by swine veterinarians.
Proceedings of the 19th IPVS Congress, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2006 - Volume 1:173
The aim of this survey, conducted among 92 veterinarians practicing in 6 Western European countries, was to determine the impact of postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) on the swine industry. The selected veterinarians completed a questionnaire so as to provide detailed information on the presence and consequences of the disease in their own country. The analysis of the completed questionnaires showed that PMWS was still a major burden for the swine industry, having a strong sanitary and economical impact, and that veterinarians were really looking forward to having vaccines available to treat infected herds.
