Field evaluation of the effects of a PCV2 vaccine (CIRCOVAC®) in Germany during the exceptional license process.
Proceedings of the 19th IPVS Congress, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2006 - Volume 1:178
This paper reports the results of the evaluation of CIRCOVAC® (Merial), a PCV2 vaccine, made by German veterinarians after one year of use in the field. The effect of vaccination was assessed thanks to descriptive and statistical analysis. The information needed was collected from veterinarians and farmers through a questionnaire per farm comparing the before and after vaccination situation. Thirty eight questionnaires were collected in total). The analysis was mainly based on mortality rates and use of medication, but clinical signs were also assessed. The results showed a significantly reduced mortality in the three groups of age, i.e. 14.5 to 12.0%, 8.4 to 3.1% and 5.8 to 2.8% in the suckling, the post weaning and the finishing stages, respectively. A significant reduction in the use of medications among vaccinated pigs was found, as well as a lower frequency of PCVD clinical signs.
