Detection of neutralizing antibodies in pigs with different porcine circovirus type 2 infection status.
Proceedings of the 19th IPVS Congress, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2006 - Volume 1:269
The aim of this study was to assess the presence of neutralising antibodies to porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) in pigs infected with PCV2. PCV2-negative and PCV2-positive pigs were selected for the study. The PCV2-positive pigs were then allocated to two different groups: postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS)-affected pigs and non-PMWS affected pigs. Neutralising antibodies were calculated and compared to the total antibody titers, defined by immunoperoxidase monolayer assay (IPMA). Neutralising antibodies were found both in PCV2-negative and PCV2-positive pigs. Fewer neutralising antibodies were however observed in PMWS-affected pigs, suggesting that a reduced number of neutralising antibodies resulted in the onset of PMWS.
