PMWS-laboratory diagnosis on herd and pig level in a Danish case-control study.
Proceedings of the 19th IPVS Congress, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2006 - Volume 1:270
The objective of this study was to assess several histopathological lesions and the load of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) in postweaning multisystemic syndrome (PMWS)-affected pigs. Seventy-four PMWS-positive Danish farms were selected for the study and the same number of farms, in which none of the pigs presented with clinical signs of PMWS, were also selected to be used as controls. Laboratory analyses were performed (histopathology and immunohistochemistry) on three pigs from each herd. Necropsy was rather performed on unthrifty pigs and tissue samples were analysed. The results showed that the correlation between clinical signs observed in the herd and analyses performed in a laboratory was poor.
