PCV2 induced granulomatous enteritis in growing pigs.
Proceedings of the 19th IPVS Congress, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2006 - Volume 1:272
Fattening pigs suffering from non-specific diarrhoea were selected for the present study. It should be noted that they had been vaccinated against Lawsonia intracellularis and Salmonella infection during the nursery phase. After necropsy, several tissues were analysed (histopathology, immunohistochemistry and PCR) in order to identify the pathogens involved. The most common cause of diarrhoea appeared to be PCV2 infection. Other pathogens, such as Lawsonia and Salmonella species, or Brachyspira, were also identified. These results show the importance of thinking about PCV2 infection in the presence of enteric disease, as this seems to be an important cause of disease.
