Estimation of the national prevalence of PMWS using two different data sources.

The objective of this Danish study was to associate two different sources of information, i.e. laboratory data (histopathology and immunohistochemistry) and information collected from veterinarians via a questionnaire. This study also aimed to find out the possible factors that could bias laboratory data results. Though the prevalence was different according to the data source, the information regarding the location of affected pig herds was similar. It was suggested that the prevalence estimates based upon laboratory data only were somewhat lower because of underreporting from veterinarians and farmers.
