Shedding of porcine circovirus into colostrum of sows.
Journal of Veterinary Medicine, 2006, B 53, 278-280
The objective of this study was to determine whether porcine circovirus (PCV) was present in the milk of sow. Colostrum samples were collected from 33 sows and analysed in order to detect the presence of PCV. A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis was used to detect PCV DNA. The results showed that both types of PCV, PCV1 and PCV2, were present in sow milk and could therefore be transmitted to piglets during the suckling period.
