Nested polymerase chain reaction detection and duration of porcine circovirus type 2 in semen with sperm morphological analysis from naturally infected boars.
Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation, 2006, 18, 380-384
The aim of this study was to monitor porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) shedding in boar semen. Forty-three boars from various genetic lines were selected for the study. Semen was collected and analysed with nPCR, in order to detect PCV2 DNA. The results showed that younger boars were apparently more likely to present with PCV2-positive semen but this did not seem to have a negative effect on sperm quality. The results also indicated that PCV2 remained present in semen for quite a long period, but was sporadic in frequency.
