Do Lelystad virus like virus isolates represent EU strain based PRRS vaccine reisolates?
Proceedings of the 19th IPVS Congress, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2006 - Volume 1:60
The aim of this study was to investigate the origin of Lelystad virus-like (LV like) strains recently observed in European countries. The study was conducted between 1998 and 2005 on almost 46,000 samples. The samples were analysed with RT-nPCR, and the PRRS-EU type-positive samples were then studied in a vaccine-field virus differentiating PCR. Some of them were sequenced in ORF 5 and genetically analysed. LV like isolates appeared to be present since 2001. As the Porcilis® PRRS vaccine started to be commonly used in 2001, LV like isolates are most likely to be derived from this vaccine.
