The effect of modified live PRRSV vaccine in boars.
Proceedings of the 19th IPVS Congress, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2006 - Volume 2:59
The objective of this Thai study was to assess the effects of boar vaccination against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) with a modified live virus (MLV) and the virus shedding pattern in semen. Four boars were selected for the study and were vaccinated with two doses of AMERVAC® (Hipra). Semen and serum samples were then collected during the course of the study and were analysed. Semen was tested for viral RNA (RT-PCR) and various quality parameters were evaluated. The results showed that vaccination resulted in a poor semen quality and in an increased number of morphoanomalies. The virus appeared to be shed in the semen of these boars.
