The effect of long-term vaccination of sows with a PRRSV inactivated vaccine on their health status and performance.
Proceedings of the 19th IPVS Congress, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2006 - Volume 2:47
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of an inactivated vaccine against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus on sow health and performances, when used on a long-term basis. A farrow-to-finish farm affected by endemic PRRS was selected for the study. All sows were vaccinated twice with the PROGRESSIS® (Merial) vaccine and received a booster injection during each subsequent gestation, during 18 months. Reproductive data were monitored and studied. Data was analysed every 6 months (one-way ANOVA) in order to determine the effects of vaccination on sow health and performances. Reproductive parameters studied were improved in vaccinated sows, suggesting that long-term vaccination with PROGRESSIS® was efficient.
