Effect of a PRRSV inactivated vaccine on health status and semen characteristics of boars.
The objective of this Greek field study was to determine the effects of boar vaccination with an inactivated vaccine against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus on their health and semen. Seven semen-donor boars were selected for the study and vaccinated twice with the PROGRESSIS® (Merial) vaccine. They received booster injections every semester, for a total of 18 months. Semen was collected regularly and analysed. The results did not show any decrease in sperm quality or any deterioration of boar health status.
