The use of modified live PRRSV vaccine to acclimatize PRRSV positive gilts prior to entry into a PRRSV positive swine herd.
Proceedings of the 19th IPVS Congress, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2006 - Volume 2:44
The aim of this study was to determine whether a modified live vaccine (MLV) against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) could protect gilts newly introduce to a PRRS-positive herd. A PRRSV-positive herd, affected by EU and US PRRSV isolates, was selected for the study. PRRSV-positive gilts were introduced into the herd and vaccinated twice with Ingelvac® (Boehringer Ingelheim). Sera was collected and tested for PRRSV antibodies (ELISA). Viral RNA was detected with nested RT-PCR. The results indicated that vaccination of gilts during acclimatation with an MLV did not confer any protection to gilts.
