Enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) response in sera repeatedly vaccinated with a PRRS killed vaccine.
Proceedings of the 19th IPVS Congress, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2006 - Volume 2:23
The aim of this study was to determine the ELISA response observed in pigs vaccinated with PROGRESSIS® (Merial) an inactivated PRRSV vaccine on a regular basis. Sixty piglets were randomly selected in a porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS)-free herd. The vaccine was administered to these piglets every month, for a total of 5 vaccinations during the study. Blood samples were collected and tested for antibodies (ELISA, usually used in the detection of post-infection antibodies). An RT-PCR was also carried out. During the course of the study, an increasing number of pigs was found to be PRRSV-positive with ELISA. The results observed in the control group, the PRRS-free health status and the management practices allowed the authors to conclude that the antibodies detected with ELISA solely resulted from vaccination.
