Comparative safety of different combined parvovirosis/erysipelas vaccines commercially available in France.
Proceedings of the 19th IPVS Congress, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2006 - Volume 2:159
Three vaccines against parvovirosis and erysipelas were compared during this multicentric, randomized and positive controlled study. The study aimed to evaluate the safety of each vaccine (PARVORUVAX® and 2 other vaccines against parvovirosis and erysipelas marketed in France, named VA and VB). Sows coming from the same farrowing batch were randomly allocated to three different groups, each one receiving one of the three vaccines above-mentioned. The booster vaccination was administered just before weaning. Rectal temperature and local reaction at the vaccination site were monitored after each vaccine administration A statistical analysis was carried out (SYSTAT®, Systat Inc., USA) through ANOVA test and chi-square test. The results of the study showed that the vaccine PARVORUVAX® was much safer than the two other vaccines studied, notably resulting in fewer local and general reactions.
